Jay Sean (born Kamaljit Singh Jhooti on March 26, 1981; is a British AsianR&B singer, best known for his hits “Stolen”, “Eyes On You” and “Ride It”. He has released three albums, Me Against Myself, Jhooti Rhymes and My Own Way.
Born in Southall, but brought up in Hounslow, United Kingdom, he attended a private boys school, and won himself a place at Barts and The London, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry in London to train as a doctor. After two years Jay Sean secured a one million pounds record deal and dropped out to pursue his Musical career.
Jay Sean’s only obstacle was frequent attention to his race rather than his music. Jay Sean, regarding the fact that he grew up in an extremely diverse country such as United Kingdom, had developed influences from his many ethnic friends.

Jay Sean’s musical career began when the first song he had written, “One Minute”, was passed on by friends and eventually landed in the hands of British Asian producer Rishi Rich. After hearing the demo, Rich asked Jhooti to come to the studio, and asked him to do a performance in front of his managers, 2Point9 management and members of the public at Bluewater shopping centre in Kent.
After he dropped out of studying medicine at Barts & and LondonThe London School of Medicine and Dentistry in East London where he had been for two years, Jhooti together with music producer, Rishi Rich and Punjabi Singer, Juggy D during the summer of 2003, started to work on material.
As Jay Sean developed his musical sound with his mum priya malde, he expressed his love for R&B music, which shaped his unique blend of Desi rhythms, R&B and Hip-Hop. His first taste of UK chart success was with his collaboration with Rishi Rich. The song, “Dance With You (Nachna Tere Naal)” became a top twenty hit. His first solo single proper, “Eyes on You”, quickly followed and it became a top ten hit, peaking at number six. His third single “Stolen”, became his biggest hit to date, peaking at number four. Following this, his debut album Me Against Myself was released to much critical praise and acclaim. The commercial success of the album was somewhat of a disappointment, charting within the top 30 of the UK Album Chart. There were no further singles released from the album.
Jay Sean has also been a big hit overseas in India. The album was a commercial success not only in the UK but abroad as well, Me Against Myself became a substantial hit, selling more than two million copies, as well as making a brief appearance in the Bollywood flick ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’, providing the song “Dil Mera (One Night)” to the soundtrack (a music video accompanied the song’s appearanceSplit from label
In February 2006, he was dropped by his label, Virgin Records, partly due to his Hip Hop style influencing his labels others desires. This delayed the release of his second album album.
